The Earth Element

Earth element, just like the Water element, is highly passive and receptive. People of Earth element are known for their endurance and persistence and they look at everything with kid gloves. Earth signs include Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. People under Earth signs learn the world thru senses, judge with vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch, and they are good at waiting and enduring. In the face of opponents or challenges, they could take a deep breath, prepare for everything and attack at the most appropriate time. But sometimes they may keep delaying. While patience is a merit, it can be a flaw if taken as an excuse for inaction.

Earth is the place where all things are nourished and all plants grow up. Because of this, people of Earth element are reliable and trustworthy. They are considerate, practical and down-to-earth, and feel at ease when it comes to responsibility, obligation, making a living and staying health. People under Earth signs know how to reconcile with the limitations of the physical world and they care about the real world rather than the future yearned by those of Fire element. Every Earth sign can accept the real and concrete things at present. Taurus and Capricorn are eager to produce something concrete, especially visible and measurable things. People of Earth element are in harmony with material matters and they would feel insecure if there is no material guarantee. Virgo also has such a trait but it is a less typical Earth sign since Virgo is a mutable sign governed by Mercury and has Air or sand traits.

Earth signs are industrious builders who work hard to accumulate material wealth. The endless pursuit of material possessions may make them appear greedy. Some of them long for the high-quality material life while some believe that material guarantee does not necessarily mean becoming rich. Comparatively speaking, Earth signs have less material needs and most of them feel comfortable as long as they have a basic economic foundation. They are usually stable and balanced and often tell cold jokes with indifference.

People of Earth element are not as attracted to new things as Fire element. The greatest strength of them lies in their ability to solve current problems and push things forward. Earth signs are very worldly, have a strong desire for five senses, love and cherish the good times. At the same time, people under Earth signs are conservative and prefer to work behind the scenes rather than attract public attention, because they know it clearly about where the influence lies.

Too much Earth element on astrolabe may lead to the excessive emphasis on material matters and such people disallow any threat to material guarantee. Also, they are unwilling to take risks, even if it is necessary to change. In the worst case, they would become narrow-minded, overly cautious, conservative and traditional, and even turn into slaves to routine. Fire element or planets with passionate traits can mitigate the tendency.

People of Earth element can get along with those under Water or Earth signs. Fire and Earth elements are not matching because Earth can put out Fire. Earth and Air can get along yet less intimate. Earth signs are considered to be conservative and sluggish. However, they can use time wisely and avoid doing the same thing twice. Consequently, they often reach the end point first, just like the tortoise in the story of the Hare and the Tortoise.
